While my expectations were that I would likely find more inspiration in the nature of the surrounding forest, this work in the architecture of AIAV is an indication of how riveting the idealistic architecture of the institution is.

Built fastidiously along north south lines and with the local brook directed "through" the architecture by way of the courtyard of stones, I felt compelled to make some reference to the feng shue at play. Interestingly I could find no recognition for the term or concept of what we know as the eastern spatial/energetic philosophy of feng shue, but the title is a Japanese word for "path of the dragon" or "flow" or "circulation". Tellingly, I struggled to find recognition for the title itself (pronounced "dyoomyakoo") despite careful and exhaustive versions of pronunciation & inflection. When eventually sense was made, I heard many times, "Ah, dyumyaku! You mean path of the dragon. " and they pronounced it just as I thought I had! This is one of the largest scale works I have made. I used 500m of thin steel cable, and walked about 20km around the building installing this just in time for the exhibition. I face much support and enquiry for enlarging the scale of my work up to 100 times. It is a challenge on various levels from budget, work required, precision to resolution (as in photographic resolution or number of pixels) and impact achieved.
